Amazing Hockey Shootout Goals

To determine the outcome of tied hockey games, shootouts are used. Each team selects 5 skaters to take penalty shots against the opposing goaltender — one-on-one. After the 10 players have all taken their shots, the team with the most goals is declared the winner.

Various techniques are tried by the shooter to score a goal on the keeper. Some try to “snipe” for the goal, meaning they shoot for an opening. Others try to “out-deke” the goaltender with their skating, stick-handling and puck movement. Below are three shootout goals that get high marks in the “out-deke” category.

1.) Dallas Stars’ Mike Ribeiro turns backwards and goes between his legs with the puck to score against the Avalanche.

2.) Sweden’s Lulea HF team’s Linus Omark scores an innovative shootout goal against Switzerland on March 31, 2009.

3.) Port Huron Icehawks’ Nicklas Lindberg pulls some razzle-dazzle on Kalamazoo’s goaltender Joel Martin during a shootout in Port Huron, April 7, 2009.
