San Antonio Spurs’ coach Gregg Popovich is typically not an easy, in-game interview – or post game interview for that matter. TNT’s NBA sideline reporter, Craig Sager has been on the receiving end of many short responses from Coach Pop.
Sager, noted for his flashy sport coats, is being treated for leukemia, and as such, has missed the playoff telecasts this year. For this past Sunday’s game between the Spurs and the Mavericks, Craig’s son, Craig Sager Jr. filled in for his dad, and asked Popovich a few questions after the end of the third quarter. Craig Jr. wore a sporty orange tie from his dad’s collection and his appearance on the show was a surprise for his father.
Showing a softer side, Popovich expanded on answers and gave some props to Craig Jr. After telling Craig Jr. he asked some great questions, he sent this message out to his father, “We miss you. You’ve been an important part of all of us for a long time, doing a great job. We want your fanny back on the court, and I promise I’ll be nice.”
Popovich demonstrated some of the same class his team has demonstrated over the years. Along with Coach Pop, we’re hoping that Craig Sager will be back on the sidelines soon.
