To own a good baking establishment, you need to consider some good bakery names. The right naming choice can set your bakery apart from the crowd.
Everyone enjoys the smell of bread baking in the oven and the delicious look of sweet treats on a cooling rack. But what is really nice is when someone else does the work. The bakers at your neighborhood bakery are up before sunrise, mixing dough, glazing buns, and baking goodies.
The variety of baked goods we can buy today is incredible compared to decades gone by. It used to be that you get a loaf of bread, maybe some hot dog buns, and a dozen or so cookies, and that was about it. Now we have many different styles of bread, exotic pastries, and just about any baked treat, you can imagine. So, with that in mind, here is a list of bakery names that you may even see near you.

Fun Facts
Here are some fun facts related to bakeries.
1.) That’s a Lot of Dough
The largest loaf of bread ever baked was made by Joaquim Goncalves in Curitiba, Paraná, Brazil in 2008 and weighed in at a hefty 3,463 pounds.
2.) The Greatest Thing: Sliced Bread
In 1928, a gentleman named Otto Frederick Rohwedder invented the automatic bread-slicing machine. Until this time, bread had always been sliced by hand and sold n whole loaves. The sliced bread did not fly off the shelves because it looked kind of sloppy. A new packaging arrangement was worked out, and the rest is history.
Pre-sliced bread was put on hold during World War II as a conservation measure. This created an outcry from consumers who had grown used to convenience. After the war, things returned to normal, and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches were easier to make. Ever since its introduction, sliced bread has become the standard for innovation and the source of the phrase “greatest thing since sliced bread.”
3.) The Story Behind Retail Bakeries
The first Baker’s Guild was established in 168 BC in Rome. As demand for baked goods rose, bakers would sell their wares from carts they pushed around the city. People from all walks of life and scattered out into the countryside wanted their loaves of bread. The bread was baked and placed in horse-drawn wagons and transported to distribution points where consumers could pick them up.
Today, you can find retail bakeries all over the place, and baked goods are readily available at big supermarket chains.
By Tim Moodie
Tim Moodie’s grandfather, Theon Borgh, was a baker and owned a bakery in Wisconsin. At one point, he even helped bake a cake for President Harry S. Truman. One of Tim’s best friends from high school runs a Bakery named Grandma’s Bakery in Minnesota. Tim’s friend is one of only 200 Master Bakers in the United States.
