How to Keep Your Goldfish Alive for 15 Years Video
How Big Can a Goldfish Grow?
Let’s say your favorite pet goldfish is kidnapped and dropped in a nearby pond. What could happen? Given the right conditions, a domesticated goldfish can grow up to 12 to 14 inches long and weigh two pounds or more. The largest goldfish ever discovered was in Kentucky and weighed 20 pounds.
You should never deliberately release goldfish in the wild. Since they don’t resemble any native species, they are easy for predators to spot. Also, they are an invasive species and if they start reproducing, they can completely take over a lake, pond, or stream.
Goldfish Baked Snack Crackers – the Goldfish You Can Eat
Introduced in 1958, Goldfish are a cheese-flavored baked cracker for snacking. Manufactured by the Pepperidge Farm Company (A Division of Campbell Soup). Today, these tasty snacks come in a variety of flavors including Pretzels and Pizza. Some of the snacks are decorated with a little dot of an eye and a slight smile. The slogan for the crackers is…” The Snack that Smiles Back.”
480 Million Goldfish
In the United States, keeping goldfish dates back to the 1600’s. Easy to care for and relatively inexpensive, goldfish have grown wildly in popularity. According to the Census of Aquaculture, over 480 million goldfish are sold each year in the United Sates.

What is Fish Food Made from?
If you have ever owned a fish, you have probably shaken fish food flakes from a canister. But what is in the flakes? What is fish food made of? Most of the flaked fish food is made from a dried combination of fish meal, squid meal, shrimp meal, earthworms, vitamins, and minerals. It is a well-balanced diet, but fish need more.
To make your fish’s diet even more rounded, you need to supplement the dried fish food flakes. Froze, fresh, and live food produce variety and nutrition for your fish friends. Some fish will eat vegetables like peas, zucchini, and little pieces of carrots. For the more adventurous out there, you can ask your local aquarium expert what kind of live food you could feed your fish.
By Tim Moodie
Tim Moodie did not have fish growing up, but he did have an aquarium. In the aquarium were three small turtles, Larry, Moe, and Curly Joe. One night he thought the turtles might get cold. He lifted them out and placed them in a tulip-shaped lamp and threw a blanket over it. Shortly thereafter, his mother came running into the room to check out the “smell.” It was not a proud moment for Tim. Tim has worked for over three decades, coming up with names for brands, companies, and products.
