An important buzzer beater is one of the biggest moments in sports. Like the walk-off homer or the overtime goal in hockey, folks remember these moments. Here’s the story of an important buzzer beater.
Central Christian Academy hit a full-court, buzzer beater for the win over Arlington High School to advance in section. Down by one point with just a half of a second to play, Central Christian Academy’s Joshua Clanton hits the three-pointer for a 64-62 victory in Class A play.
Clanton, a 6’2″ senior, was not having his best night ever on the basketball floor. He had 6 points. But, he rose to the occasion with a shot that those in attendance will likely never forget. Getting off a 75 foot shot in .5 seconds is no small task. To also make it is quite an achievement.
As is the case with many notable buzzer beaters, folks asked Joshua to try and replicate the shot the next day. He tried five times. Not one of his efforts even hit the rim. One hit the ceiling.
Clanton’s hero role was a nice surprise to a very difficult year for him. His father suffered two strokes. After practice on Wednesday, his plans were to review the video of his long buzzer beater with his dad.
Central Christian Academy plays again Friday in Edinburgh, in the sectional semifinal against Lutheran. Good luck Joshua.
Here’s the same shot from a different view.
