NFC North

February 13, 2023

The NFC North, or The National Football Conference – Northern Division, is one of the four National Football Conference (NFC) divisions in the National Football League (NFL). This tough division features the Minnesota Vikings, Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers, and the Detroit Lions.

The division was established in 1967 as the Central Division. In 1970 the AFL merged with the NFL, and the division was renamed the NFC Central. The NFL then split into eight divisions, and the Central Division became the NFC North in 2002.

These teams have been playing each other twice a year for more than sixty years, and because of that, the division was nicknamed the “Black and Blue Division” for its aggressive and scrappy rivalry games.

The division has 5 Super Bowl wins. Four of those wins come from the Green Bay Packers, and the other one is from the Chicago Bears.

There are ten teams with the highest winning percentage in their division. Three of the ten are in the NFC North, coming from the Chicago Bears, Minnesota Vikings, and Green Bay Packers.

On the other hand, the Detroit Lions are one of the losingest teams in the NFL, including a 0-16 record in 2008. The NFC North itself also has the second-longest active Super Bowl drought.

Green Bay Packers

The Green Bay Packers have the most Super Bowl wins with four. For the past 18 seasons, the Packers have been led by an all-time great quarterback, Aaron Rodgers. However, Rodgers status with the team is uncertain, placing Packers brass in a difficult position. Does Rodgers want to stay in Green Bay or play elsewhere?

Packers Overview

The Green Bay Packers had a rocky 2022-23 season, finishing with a 8-9 record and 3rd out of 4 teams. A controversy keeping Packers fans on their feet is whether Aaron Rodgers will retire or not.

Rodgers has had 18 solid seasons and is known as an all-time great; however, he can only play for so long and do so much. Behind Rodgers is a young Jordan Love, who doesn’t have much experience. Many guess his time to come will be next year after Rodgers retires, but that is for everyone to find out.

And the oldest rivalry in the NFL – Chicago Bears vs. Green Bay Packers – is in the division many affectionately call the Black and Blue Division.
