Play Tennis Day — April 23

March 9, 2022

Every April 23, we celebrate Play Tennis Day.

The earliest form of tennis started in France in the 1200s. Players used their hands instead of racquets. Modern Day Tennis has roots back in England in the mid-1800s.

Augurio Perera and Harry Gem invented the sport of tennis. Col. Walter Wingfield patented the game in 1874. The first Tennis Club was started in 1872. Play Tennis Day was designed to encourage people to play the game. The sport is a terrific way to stay fit and an excellent way to get out and socialize.
