About the Author: Mike O’Halloran

Welcome to Sports Feel Good Stories. I founded Sports Feel Good Stories in 2009 and have worked as its publisher and editor ever since.

Let me share a few things about myself with you.

All About Mike O’Halloran

1.) I live in St. Paul, Minnesota, and have lived in the Twin Cities metro area for all but about 15 years of my life. I was born in Kansas City (How about those Chiefs?) and lived in Wausau, Wisconsin (Go, Pack, Go) for a few years. My mutual fund of NFL teams concept continues to befuddle in-laws and friends.

2.) With three older brothers, I grew up playing various sports, including wiffleball and little league baseball, neighborhood football games, and basketball in the winter months. Baseball was my first love. My mom tells stories of me at age three refusing to go to bed until she agreed to stay up to listen to Kansas City Athletics games on the radio to report the score to me in the morning, which she did. (At some point, she learned that the box scores of MLB games were printed in the paper, so she didn’t have to stay up for those late West Coast games.)

My limited success in the big three sports peaked in about 6th grade. In high school, I succeeded more in tennis, eventually teaching others how to play. Now, my favorite sports are NFL Football, NCAA Basketball, and playing pickleball.

More On Mike

3.) I’m happily married with four grown daughters and two grandsons. Coaching my daughters in various sports, including soccer, softball, volleyball, and basketball, was always a rewarding experience. I coached basketball for 15 seasons, culminating in a state title with my youngest daughter’s squad. I wrote four books on basketball and basketball coaching — see below.

4.) I recently wrote Best Sports Slogans and Captions. The book features over 2,000 sports slogans and captions for players, coaches, and sports fans. If you’re looking for a catchy sports slogan or a fun photo caption, we’ve got you covered, like L’Jarius Sneed on a slow wide receiver.

5.) I’ve worked as a contributing writer for USA Football, the youth arm of the NFL. Here’s an article I wrote on planning football practices.

6.) I created and published The Well-Prepared Coach line of editable award certificates for various sports. Put a smile on someone’s face with these.

7.) The line also includes coaches’ practice plans for baseball, basketball, soccer, and softball.

8.) In 2021, I founded the Fantasy Football Team Names Hall of Fame. Having played fantasy football since the mid-1970s and developed lists of fantasy names yearly for some time, it felt like the right thing to do. From “Odell, Motel, Holiday Inn” to “Flacco Seagulls,” there are a lot of memories associated with those team monikers.

9.) I started the Sports Feel Good Stories website in 2009. Read about its origin story on the About Us page.

Education

10.) My educational background includes a liberal arts degree from the University of St. Thomas (Now Division I for sports) and a master’s degree from the University of Minnesota.

11.) In 2014, I founded Greeting Card Poet, a resource for finding the right messages for your greeting cards. Never be at a loss for words. In 2017, I co-founded ListCaboodle with Greg Johnson, a site all about lists. Join the list of list-lovers like David Letterman (Top Ten List), Santa Claus (Naughty and Nice), and Moses (Ten Commandments).

12.) During sports cheating scandals, some abhorrent athlete actions on and off the field, and boorish parent behavior, I try to focus on the positive aspects of sports — the things that attracted us to the games in the first place. Please join me on the journey.
