Today, the Fantasy Football Team Names Hall of Fame™ announces the enshrinement of 17 fantasy football team names, including 16 team names and one league name for its inaugural 2021 Class.
The inaugural class of 2021 includes some classic fantasy names from days gone by and a few names that honor a player on current rosters. Big names getting the nod from the selection committee include Brady’s and Edelman, Mr. Rodger’s Neighborhood, Favre Dollar Foot Long, and Somewhere Over Dwayne Bowe.
The Fantasy Football Team Names Hall of Fame follows the lead of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, which enshrined 17 players and executives back in January of 1963, which included stars like Red Grange, Bronko Nagurski, Sammy Baugh, Jim Thorpe, and Don Hutson.
Class of 2021: 15 Fantasy Football Team Names Enshrined
1.) Forgetting Brandon Marshall — “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” was a 2008 film that starred Jason Segel, Kristen Bell, Mila Kunis, Russell Brand, Paul Rudd, and Jonah Hill. Brandon Marshall played for six different NFL teams, including the Denver Broncos, New York Jets, and Chicago Bears. For some reason, the combo of the film’s name with the well-traveled receiver just worked.
2.) Flacco Seagulls — Joe Flacco inspired the Baltimore Ravens to its first Super Bowl win. His surname also inspired many fantasy football team names, with “Flacco Seagulls” being the best.
3.) Backfields and McCoy — LeSean “Shady” McCoy was the featured RB in Buffalo’s backfield. The play-on-words was too enticing to pass on for many a fantasy football team owner.
4.) Somewhere over Dwayne Bowe — Chief’s receiver Dwayne Bowe’s name lend itself well to this fantasy name.
5.) The Ertz Locker — What do you get when you cross Eagles tight end Zach Ertz with the Oscar-winning movie, The Hurt Locker? Answer: The Ertz Locker.
6.) DeMarco Polo — DeMarco Murray was a fantasy football star in 2014 when he led the NFL in rushing TDs and rushing yards. And, just about everyone knows the annoying game that kids play at hotel swimming pools, “Marco Polo.” Some 23 million fantasy football owners claim to have invented this name. But, since it’s a Pavlovian response to yell, “Polo,” when you hear “Marco,” no one gets the credit.

7.) Rudy Was Offsides — It’s fun to see a name enshrined that is not tied to an NFL player. If you haven’t seen one of the most famous football movies of all time, Rudy, here’s the backstory. In the movie, Daniel “Rudy” Ruettiger works hard and perseveres to finally get in a game for his college, Notre Dame. After fans and teammates lobby the coach to put Rudy in the last game of the season, the coach relents and lets him play. In the final play of the game, Rudy sacks the opponent’s QB. This feel-good sports movie (and all Notre Dame fans) are tweaked with the name “Rudy Was Offsides.”
8.) Straight Cash Homey — After Randy Moss pretended to moon Packer fans, the NFL fined him $10,000. When asked at a press conference if he had written a check to the NFL to pay the fine, Moss replied, “When you’re rich, you don’t write checks.” He was then asked if you don’t write checks, how do you pay? His reply was, “Straight cash, homey.”
9.) Favre Dollar Foot Long — Subway’s “Five Dollar Foot Long” commercial had a huge TV presence back in 2009, and Brett Favre was a huge presence in the NFL. It was a match made in fantasy football heaven.
Classics
10.) Mr. Rodger’s Neighborhood — Mr. Rogers had his own TV show. Mr. Rodgers had a guest stint on Jeopardy and frequently appears on televised professional football games.
11.) Foster’s Austrarian for Beer — Foster’s beer’s famous slogan was a great match for Arian Foster’s name. And Arian Foster, for a window of time, was a fantasy football beast!
12.) Luck Dynasty — The popular TV show Duck Dynasty paired nicely with Andrew Luck.
13.) Breesus, King of the Drews — From Breesy Like Sunday Morning to Easy Breesy and Grilled Brees, there is no shortage of Drew Brees fantasy names. But, Breesus, King of the Drews, got the knock on the door and entered the Hall of Fame.
14.) Brady and Edelman — One of the most famous QB-to-receiver connections in the NFL of all time – Tom Brady and Julian Edelman – is also the basis for this fantasy football name. What’s not to love?
15.) It’s Always Runny in Philadelphia — It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is a classic TV show. This is a classic name. It was a unanimous selection to enter the Hall.
