How do you motivate a basketball player?
For a basketball coach to motivate a team and individual players, it’s not just one thing. A quote alone won’t do it. It begins by having a base level of knowledge of the game. It requires preparation for practices and games.
Being a good coach entails knowing how to inspire a team. It includes knowing how to demonstrate techniques and explaining not only the how but also the why. It means being honest, being a good communicator, and bringing your passion to the game.
Good preparation includes knowing what your team needs to work on, keeping practices fun, so repetition doesn’t become boring, and when and how to praise players and the team collectively. That is the lion’s share of how to motivate a team. The french dressing, or the cherry-on-top, might include using the quotes at the right time.
